(US Cellular) LG Apex Review January 17, 2011
Before I start this review, I would like to thank US Cellular for sending this phone out for review.
Call Quality
The LG Apex has great call quality. I have experienced no white noise or static while sending or receiving calls. People that I have called have also said that they could hear me clearly.
Android/LG Skin
The LG Apex comes pre-loaded with an LG skin. The LG skin seems to make the Apex perform slowly. Luckily, you have the choice of using stock Android or the LG skin. I would recommend using stock Android.
Performance
Like I have said in the previous paragraph, the Apex performs slowly while using the LG skin. But when you are using the stock Android skin, the phone runs moderately smooth.
This phone has very average specs. The Apex is running off of a 600 MHz Qualcomm processer and 256MB of RAM.
Screen
The LG Apex has a 3.2 inch LCD capacitive touch screen. The resolution of this display is 480×800. I think that the phone’s screen looks good, but it’s nowhere near Apple’s Retina display in terms of color and sharpness.
The screen is made out of glass. Even though it isn’t Gorilla Glass, the screen feels very durable.
Qwerty Keyboard/Buttons
The Qwerty keyboard that is built into the LG Apex is amazing. The keys have a nice design and are easy to see in the dark. The keyboard is also very tactile, which makes the keyboard feel very nice when pressing the keys.
The other hardware buttons on the LG Apex are also very nice. They are all tactile and feel great when pressed.
Build Quality
Even though the LG Apex is made out of plastic, the phone feels very solid.
The hinge that connects the Qwerty keyboard to the Apex also feels very tight and solid. This is one thing that many phones with Qwerty keyboards lack.
Camera
The LG Apex has a 3 MP camera that takes poor quality pictures. I consider this to be one of the main drawbacks of this phone.
Conclusion
If you are an avid texter, you will love this phone because of it’s slideout Qwerty keyboard. On the other hand, Android power users will not like this phone because of it’s average processor.
This phone will run you $49.99 on a two year contract with US Cellular. This makes the phone a great deal.
